Last day of April and where is spring??
Pretty good day but rain, rain, rain.  One of Cody's teacher from high school came over.  She was his spanish teacher.  We bonded with these teachers as they were in our home and we all became attached to each other.  She was here with her hubby who also works at HSE and their beautiful little girl.  We went out for dinner and it was so nice to see them.  Thanks, Miracolo Family! Can't wait to meet the next addition!
All is good here just trying to plan for Monday which is chemo week.  Cody is very excited about his gambling debut this weekend for his birthday.   Should be fun at Foxwoods.  Hope he wins!
Stay dry LI!  Have a good night all!

April 27, 2014

Happy 21st birthday to my son.  You are amazing to all of us.  I cannot believe the path your life has taken but you have embraced it and you run with it.  Bring it on!  You make so proud to be your mom! I love you.  I am sorry that we could not be with your brother and sister in law today to celebrate but we will!  We are lucky to be filled with love from our family.  I am blessed to have such awesome friends, near and far, that fill in the gaps and make us both feel so loved and so special.  It is a big day and an emotional one. It is a huge milestone.  I am happy to celebrate each minute with you!  Here's to many, many more birthdays!!!  Stay strong my boy!

April 26, 2014

Saturday and one day before my baby turns 21.  Unreal!!
Bloodwork yesterday was good but counts would not be up enough for chemo to begin on Monday.  We postponed it for the week so that he can try his luck at a poker tournament next week for his birthday!
Not sure of the plans for tomorrow.  I had wanted to do a party but he did not.  We got gift cards to the Melting Pot so he picked there for dinner.  Should be a nice time.
Casey and Nicole are boarding the ship for their cruise today.   It is well deserved and glad Casey can do what he enjoys.
Mom is settled into the nursing home.  She is experiencing some memory loss after the 2 strokes.  Casey and Nicole saw her yesterday and she kept getting them confused.  She is fighting this and I just hope she is not suffering through it.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

April 21, 2014

Very quiet Easter (and also my birthday) but it was nice.  We ended up going to the Melting Pot for dessert with friends Jean and Mike.  It was a beautiful day and I actually sat out on the deck for a little while.  The sun felt great.
I am just trying to sort through all this stuff with my mom.  It is sad to me.  I wish she was not alone so much.  She is making slow progress from the stroke.  She is actually getting settled into the nursing home as I type this so that will be better for her.  She can work on rebuilding her skills and she won't be alone so much.  That makes her sad.  I know it is hard on my brother.  He is doing it alone and it takes its toll on you, for sure.  I know this first hand.
Cody has been feeling great.  He is eating well and that makes me happy.  He seems to have his energy back from the chemo cycle. He had bloodwork today and made counts by the skin of his teeth.  He wanted to bike ride today but it was discouraged due to lower platelet count.  Soon…
Now we are looking forward to his 21 st birthday which is this Sunday.  We are a week apart.  He was my 30th birthday present.  Guess I just gave out my age but it is no secret.
Casey and Nicole are settled back into the real world.  They are going on a cruise next week.  I wish we could go with them.  Maybe next year!
Back to work tomorrow but it is a short week.  48 more days of school till summer!  We can do this!!

April 18, 2014

Hi..Happy Good Friday.
So not so good here.  Cody is well but my mom is not.  She went in on Wednesday for a catheter procedure.  She is all blocked and they could not get the dye through. Unfortunately a side effect of the procedure is strokes.  She suffered 2 during the night.  She has the drooping face and eye, and limited use of her right side.  They are doing and MRI to confirm.  I hate to know that she is suffering with all of this.  Pray for her.
We went to the Hyundai Hope on Wheels event last night.  It was very moving.  They raised over $86,000,000 for pediatric cancer research.  Makes me want to go buy a Hyundai.  Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child was there to help and sing.  She was great.  Lexi Walker was also there, a youtube sensation.  It was nice to be a part of it.  Only 4 kids from Sloan came and Cody and his cousin were 2 of them.  Cody saw his other dr from NYU there too.
Hoping for a quiet weekend.

April 15, 2014

Today was a blood test at Sloan and Cody needed platelets.  He is really handling the chemo well other than the transfusions here and there.  He sat with the clowns for a long time.  Since everyone is sick with the stomach virus, they had time to sit because they could not go into patients' rooms.  So Cody and the clowns exchanged card tricks.  Then a few other friends came to chat.  Lastly, Rocco the guy from integrative medicine came.  He usually does some foot massage or gentle massaging to Cody but I jumped in and got a massage.  I have some knots in my back and he was good!  He's a great guy and very funny.  So it was a good day at MSKCC.  Hoping the rest of the week is just as smooth.  Cody is very excited about the car show on Thursday.  Looking forward to a fun night!
Stay dry, LI…looking forward to sunshine tomorrow.

April 11, 2014

Friday is here!!  Cody did well and ended up getting a unit of blood yesterday.  Just finishing up at Sloan.  Waiting for clearance to go home.  Long week for sure.
Glad I was here today and it was also Matisse's day here.  He and Uncle Jim were here most of the day.  Matisse got his last spinal and bone marrow biopsy.  He is finished!!  I will continue to pray for his clean bill of health!
Cody did well.  I actually think he may have missed me being here, but he would NEVER say it!  It was a tough week but we got through it.
We had a friend come visit today.  We actually met her and her son at NYU when her son was just diagnosed with a Wilm's tumor on his kidney.  He is doing VERY well now, thank goodness.  It was nice of her to come visit.  Thanks!!!  <3 p="">We found out that Cody's uncle is doing a fundraiser for Contractors for Kids!  He has a very successful wine business and is given 100% of proceeds to CFK!  Very happy about that.
Looks like we come in next week on Tuesday and Thursday.  Thursday is the car thing and then they are doing Cody's birthday here at Sloan that day!  It will be fun!
Hoping for a quiet weekend!!
Teacher peeps:  Enjoy the 10 days off!  I know I will!!!

April 8, 2014

Is it Friday???
Cycle 10 is in full swing.  Cody is doing well other than being puffy from the fluids.  He is eating like crazy.  I am here with him and we are staying at Ronald.  Today I actually commuted in and went to work. I am already in PJs and ready to crash here but glad I am here.  I was with Cody yesterday and will take Friday off to drive him home when he finishes. I will commute tomorrow and Thursday too.   I am glad next week we are all off.
Cody was asked tonight to be an ambassador for the International Car Show this Thursday.  It is Press Night and Hyundai will be doing the handprints on the car for cancer.  Matisse, Cody's cousin that had leukemia too will be there also.  Cody is definitely excited about it!
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the milder temps today.  Until next time…xoxoxox

April 5, 2014

So the week flew by and was a quiet one.  Cody's counts are recovering and we did not need to get his blood checked on Friday.  All looks like he is set for chemo on Monday.  Change this time as his dad cannot go with him so I am scrambling and will work it all out.  I am going to do the reverse commute this week for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  At least I will try to.  We will be sleeping at the Ronald House all week.  I will take Monday and Friday off.  I am so thankful for my colleagues that said they would step up for me and help out, as they always do.  My friend, Moira is the best dog sitter ever.  My dogs actually come back fatter after a few days with her!! We would not be able to keep the dogs if we did not have her to get them at the drop of a hat.  My boss and the administration have been amazing through all of this too.  No questions asked and they work it all out with me.  It definitely helps me with my stress levels.  I think at this point, I am more stressed than Cody!  I definitely see a pattern with him and when his moods change so I am trying to deal with all that and trying to help him too.  Last night he went to the race track and had a good time.  I stayed home.  Sometimes I need to do that too!
Looking forward to this beautiful weekend weather.  Looks like a bike ride could be in the plan.
Enjoy and I will update this week.
